For the Love of Christmas
For the Love of Christmas
Who doesn’t love Christmas? A special time of year
So much fun and parties make us happy with cheer
The decorations are so delightful and bright
We even jump in the car to see neighbors’ lights
Enjoy the Christmas tree, always trimmed to the brim
And the stockings are hung by the chimney for “him”
Who is “him” you may wonder with interest and glee
None other than Santa Claus fits the bill you see
He leaves lots of presents for good girls and good boys
He leaves things like books and games and clothing and toys
The highlight of my Christmas was always our dad
Dressed in a beard and red suit. It looked pretty bad.
We all knew it was Dad, Uncle Richard or Dick
But it was more fun to play along with his schtick
Family and friends gathered for good food and good fun
Candy, chestnuts, egg nog, fruitcake and raisin buns
Those are not actually examples of good food
But if I didn’t mention them, it would be rude
Grandma’s basement kitchen – the place for all parties
Was Christmas Central, of course, so don’t be tardy!
All the fun happened after dinner was finished
Old Italians play poker, smoke and reminisced
It caused a distraction so the kids also get
To hide under the table, play games and make bets
If it snowed we all went out for a snowball fight
When we were tired and cold we got warm by firelight
So many things this season bring us peace and joy
Most important is the birth of a baby boy
Jesus is the reason for the season we know
Let us all pray this season for His church to grow.
